		<description>Throwing in another vote for GIMP (The Gnu Image Manipulation Program).  I&#039;ve been using the Windows version of it on my laptop for quite some time with a lot of success.  It&#039;s not *just* a Linux program anymore.

		<description>GIMP is a great program. But for the novice, I would recommend Picasa from google (http://picasa.google.com). While it lacks more sophisticated functions, Picasa is very user friendly, intuitive and easier to install. 

Both are free.</description>
